About Bamwor
Who is behind Bamwor
Bamwor was created by Manuel Longo, a developer and builder with a long-standing interest in structured global data and how people access information about the world.
The origin of Bamwor
Bamwor is not a new idea.
More than 15 years ago, around 2010, an early version of Bamwor was launched with a clear goal: to complement global reference data sources like the CIA World Factbook by combining them with structured datasets such as GeoNames.
At that time, access to global, structured, and developer-friendly data was still limited. Social platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Twitter were not yet widespread, and Facebook was just beginning to scale globally.
Bamwor gained traction quickly. People from different parts of the world used it as a reference tool — for learning, research, and exploration. It became a practical way to access structured information about countries and cities in a simple and accessible format.
The pause
A few years later, due to personal and life circumstances, the project could no longer be maintained. Bamwor went offline. Eventually, even the domain was lost.
The return
More than a decade later, Bamwor is back.
After recovering the domain and with more time, experience, and a deep personal connection to the project, Manuel decided to rebuild Bamwor from the ground up.
This return was also driven by a key moment: the discontinuation of the CIA World Factbook created a significant gap for students, teachers, researchers, and developers who relied on structured global data. Bamwor was rebuilt with the intention of helping fill that gap.
What Bamwor is today
Today, Bamwor is more than an informational site. It is a platform that combines:
- Structured global datasets (countries, cities, and more)
- Editorial and contextual content
- Rankings and analytical indices
- Tools for developers
Built for humans and developers
Bamwor is designed to serve two main audiences:
People
Students, teachers, researchers, and curious minds who want to understand countries, cities, and global data in a clear and accessible way.
Developers
Teams and individuals who need structured, reliable data. For this purpose, Bamwor provides:
- A public API
- An MCP Server for AI workflows and integrations
- Downloadable datasets
Our goal
The goal of Bamwor is simple: to make structured global information accessible, usable, and meaningful — both for humans and for systems. We believe data should not only exist, but also be understandable and useful.
A long-term project
Bamwor is a long-term project built with care. It started as a personal initiative, evolved into a widely used tool, disappeared, and now returns with a stronger foundation and a broader vision.
We hope to contribute, even in a small way, to the global community that relies on open and structured information.
